Breaking my own rule …

… which as my friend you KNOW that we don’t post ANY bad pictures of ourselves.  But this is just too funny (and humbling) not to share.

What I thought would be the EASY trip to China has started out not so easy.  Dennis has spent hours working on our Chinese Visa which is complicated and of course must include a picture of each of us. Thinking it would be like getting a passport picture, we went to Walgreens to get ‘er done.  But no …. they wouldn’t help us because of the precision of the picture needed.

So Dennis did the research and found out that Greg’s Camera in Tucson could create this picture for us.  So we took a trip to the north side of Tucson (which is a trip all to itself for us Sahuarita-ites) and thought it would be a slam dunk to get the picture taken and printed.

Well NO … not quite!  It took the guy almost an hour to PERFECTLY print, EXACTLY cut the picture down to the PRECISE dimension (including millimeters from the edge of the photos, size of our face, ears showing, no smiling)…. just look at the PHOTO REQUIREMENTS from the Chinese government in Dennis’ hands.

This guy at the store was a master!

So an hour later and $50 spent, we walked out with 4 tiny pictures that Dennis then had to PERFECTLY attach to the Visa application (10 pages with attachments).  Hard to believe that 28 million tourists went through this whole process last year alone.

So …. as for breaking  my own personal rule on posting bad pictures … rules are meant to be broken.  Prison pictures would look better than these Chinese Visa pics!

These are better than my CN Visa photos – BUT, I DID use Walgreens and it was find???
I went through a Company called CIBT and you just send the photo in with your application and viola’ it’s done. I’ve following this process more than 10 times…..still trying to figure out what changed in the past year that I was in CN???

Regardless, really glad you finished the process and who cares anyway, nobody really sees the visa photo anyway (mine doesn’t even show).

I’m wondering if it’s the difference between business and personal travel??? Maybe that’s it.

SO excited for you both – the countdown has truly begun for you ☺

    Love you,
    Deb

  3. We’re using the company “ItsEasy Passport and Visa” who has been around since 1976 and has a BBB rating of A+. My guess is that business travel is easier than personal. Oh well … it’s all part of the experience!
