Lets talk real life: toilets in China

I had the best shower of the trip at the Marriott Renaissance in Wuhan this morning. And while I was enjoying the luscious Western bathroom, it reminded me to share these thoughts.

Many of my friends know that I was apprehensive about this aspect of our tour.  I have never been a fan of squat toilets and I just didn’t know what to expect.

I decided to take the plunge at The Temple of Heaven.  I was hoping to spy the facial recognition software at the toilet paper dispenser, but I nervously went by the dispenser directly to a stall because I brought my own supplies. And I have a new perspective …. squat toilets aren’t all that bad.  In a country with SO MANY people, it is actually more sanitary than using a Western toilet.  The flusher is on the back of the toilet and is operated with your foot. There is NOTHING to touch!

If they could add soap and some way to dry your hands at the many times joint male/female sinks it would really be OK.

I am grateful for the sensitivity of the Chinese of the Western culture.  I did discover that at the end of the long line of stalls there was a Western toilet there.  But more than once THAT toilet was nasty and I went back to the squat.

After all, when in China ….

Getting ready to board our flight to Shanghai.   It is DUMPING outside and I believe it is God’s confirmation that it’s time to go home.

Oh boy, I have to say, with my knees this part would be tough for me. Happy to know that YOU were able to adapt!

    Safe trip home!

    Hugs,
