What a SUPER PLEASANT flight from Tucson to Houston to Cancun yesterday. I have to admit that we were a little apprehensive with all of the bad press recently about United Airlines. But we just “decided” that our experience would be wonderful, and IT WAS.

We arrived on time and happy after traveling First Class. HELLO… WHO WOULDN’T BE? After a brief delay, we were transported to our offsite rental car company and off we went on a 2 hour drive south to Tulum. So grateful we arrived BEFORE dark as our “home” is not where most people would chose to stay. The resort office closed at 7:00 pm and we literally arrived at 6:59 pm!

We have since learned that, as with most places, there are the popular and not-so-popular places to stay. We chose an AirBnB rental unit in a resort called Caleta Tankah, that for some reason is not overly-populated. This resort is located within the Parque Nacional Tulum (National Park). We have done Internet research and in 2014-2015 this was the location of The Mayan Madness, an Electronic Music Festival.
The festival was shut down for “political” reasons and now Caleta Tankah feels like the most magical place to be in the entire Tulum area. We can walk about a mile north and south along the beach before we reach another resort. SO UNIQUE!

The Tulum Ruins are slightly visible by the naked eye from our balcony and easily seen through binoculars. See the surf…. it’s IMMEDIATELY BELOW OUR BALCONY.

Of course it’s warm and humid but the AC above our bed works well. No bugs… yeah! The roaring (red flag) winds have been constant which produce crashing sea and surf sounds. The high temperature today was around 80 degrees with 86% humidity. Lovely! A series of storm squalls moved over us today with only light rain. We’re grateful to be here and not in Sahuarita where heat records are being broken.

We’ll share MORE adventures tomorrow AFTER we decide which Mayan Ruin we’ll visit. Our plans will depend on the weather so nothing is set in stone. After beach combing to find a few special artifacts, we enjoyed an late evening cocktail on our balcony. WONDERFUL!

Love hearing about the start of your Tulum adventure. Enjoy to the fullest and we will see you soon!

Taking tomorrow off from Glen Ellen as it is going to be even hotter. It’s a lovely 71 here in SF right now. The fog hovering on the coast is keeping us cool.
