We LOVE staying at (that means on) the beach in Mexico… actually ANY beach ANY place in the world with warm water, fresh tropical breezes, crashing waves, loud surf sounds and ample adult beverages!
We drove down the South Beach road in Tulum where one resort after another crowd together on both sides of the road. We liked the “Hip Hotel” and decided to have breakfast. The pic above was taken from our outdoor table. So perfect!
A beautifully prepared Mexican specialty breakfast. Can you believe we’re drinking fresh watermelon juice? We did but a cold cerveza was also enjoyed!

Between our early morning and late afternoon activities, we do enjoy returning to our lovely condo on the beach. We’ve got a fully stocked kitchen and plenty of adult beverages.
As I write this blog post on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 21st (the Summer Solstice), Diana is enjoying her private beach time. Our condo is on the 2nd floor – right side, so we have a view up and down the beach.
It’s turtle nesting season (May – October) on Tulum beaches. Right outside our condo we spotted several sets of fresh tracks made by huge mother sea turtles. Every night after the sun goes down, the Loggerhead Turtle or Green Sea Turtle amble slowly up the beach, dig their holes and lay their eggs. The mother turtle uses her flippers to cover the eggs with sand.
Baby turtles are born after 50 – 60 days from the sand nests and struggle to make their way through the sand to the Caribbean Sea. In the pic you’ll see a wooden stake with bright orange flag. There are hundreds of these markers along the Tulum beaches to identify the spot where a turtle nest is located. This is a precious time and everyone is asked to stay clear of the turtle nests. Quite a special sight!
We took a long walk along the private beach and then cooled off in the salt water Cenote that’s located at the resort. There’s also a fresh water Cenote on the resort property. The Yucatan Peninsula has MANY beautiful Cenotes to visit. We’re off to play before happy hour which will be followed by a fresh Mexican dinner somewhere along the beach. Adios Amigos!

So happy that you’re following our Mexico trip blog. While travelling through this part of Mexico, we reflect upon the story of you getting “held up” during your Yucatan peninsula trip. We ALMOST got ripped off at a gas station in Tulum. Diana can tell quite a spiritual story about what happened.

Your condo sounds perfect – quiet and off the beaten track! It sounds like the area has gotten much more congested than when we were there many years ago. We probably wouldn’t recognize it anymore.
And how awesome that you are there during Turtle nesting season! How lucky you are!

Debra… YES we LOVE our beachfront condo in Tulum. As you know from your multiple visits to Mexico, things are not always perfect or absolutely working all of the time. We’re being flexible and enjoying the good aspects of our trip. We enjoy this part of Mexico and feel comfortable returning at some future date.

Yes, we’re getting acclimated to the hot temps, warm sea water, lots of humidity, brisk breezes, large waves and the relaxed lifestyle on the Yucatan peninsula. I could envision living on the beach for 1 month per year… either here or in Rocky Point. I think we have MORE beach locations to explore in Mexico before making a final decision. That means MORE trips in the future!

I agree with your comments… WOW and AWESOME! This beach is almost totally private (that means nobody ever in sight). On occasion, we have seen people. This weekend, the condo building (4 units) is fully occupied. Everyone staying here is cool, relaxed and respectful of others. No skinny dipping (so far)!
