Tulum Ruins, Mexico… “The Wall”

On early Friday morning we visited Tulum.  We were as excited about seeing this ruin as we were Coba and Chichen Itza, especially since we could see it in the distance from our condo.  We wanted to see it in the sun, and our wish came true.

Here’s a visual …

Tulum was a major religious and trading center between the 11th and 16th centuries.   Because of it’s location, it survived the general Mayan civilization collapse during the 13th to 14th centuries.  The Spanish in 1518 found Tulum and unfortunately for the Mayans, their culture was changed forever.

Its hard to see, but our condo is off in the distance on the shore.

These big boy Iguanas are EVERYWHERE!

Dennis and I both felt a kinship with these ruins.  Between Coba, Chichen Itza, and Tulum, we both felt like this is where we might have lived in a previous lifetime.  Of COURSE we believe we were of the Highest Royalty here!

Once again we are always so thankful to arrive at these places when they open at 8:00 am.  Here was the line to get in at 10:00 am when it was just starting to get HOT!

After a lovely beach-side brunch at Zamas, we were excited to come home and enjoy our own beachfront condo.  An ocean rescue, which we watched from our balcony, introduced us to our neighbors.  A very nice family from the Pismo Beach, California area.  Desirae went to high school with Amber, my nephew’s wife-to-be!  It’s a small world after all.

Playing in the water with our neighbors and their 2 kids.

And then it hit me…. around midnight.  The dreaded Montezuma’s Revenge.  And boy did it come on strong.  I spent ALL DAY Saturday in the bathroom and just feeling like hell. Dennis was of great support and did everything he could to help me.  But somethings things just need to run their course.

I was very grateful to have brought the book called “The Mayan”, which is historical fiction about the life of a man living during those times.  At least I felt like I was still in The Yucatan Peninsula.

I’m writing this blog post on Sunday morning as we prepare to drive an hour north to the Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya Resort to hook up with Lynda and Pete (Dennis’ sister and brother in law) plus Kristen and Holli (Dennis’ niece and her new wife).  This will be the one year wedding anniversary celebration for the ladies.  I just pray that I feel better SOON so I can enjoy our family and our FIRST experience at an all-inclusive resort.

Oh ~ the surprises of life!
