These are a few of My Favorite Things

Our third and final week has commenced.  Time feels so different here.  I only know what day it is by looking at our VERY BUSY schedule everyday.

After a relaxing weekend, we’re starting out this week with Tropical Storm Gordon.  THANK YOU GOD for pointing it just a little further south, but we did have heavy downpours all day (blessings to all in its path).  This morning early we juiced up our wheatgrass, and then attended a Yin Yoga class in the Discovery Yurt at 8 am.  It rained so hard during class that at times I couldn’t even HEAR the instructor, Fernanda.  Listening to nature is all I really needed to hear anyway.

With only 5 days left here at HHI, I’m starting to reflect on this experience.  And in order for me to remember details in the future, and to share with my friends, here are my favorite things from being here.

  • The world-class education.  I’m so impressed with the diversity of subjects, and seeing that what we’re learning is not just their opinion, but pier-reviewed evidence of what is a very healthy, happy, and balanced way to live on planet earth.  Of course they agree that everyone’s body is different, but there are certain basic truths about inflammation, cancer, and dis-ease, and how it is created and grows in the body.  My head is over-flowing, and I’m very grateful for the manual and book that we will bring home and my pages and pages of notes.
  • The food.  Yes, believe it or not, eating raw vegan is DELICIOUS.  Our taste buds have changed ALOT in the last 2 weeks.  I really disliked sauerkraut and kimchi when we arrived, but it has grown on me.  FYI:  It is good for the system to eat one or the other with the meal as it really assists in digestion.  We had BURGERS for Labor Day lunch today!   Veggie burgers with all the trimmings, and all vegan!  And I never knew that asparagus is really good RAW!  I’m very excited to start experimenting when we get home.
  • The freedom to just be natural.  Being here is very similar for me working and just being at home.  No make-up, no jewelry, loose clothing, and being able to go from the pool to a meal, lecture, or a treatment, even with wet hair.  They also encourage no deodorant because we are detoxing (that is what showers are for).  We have comfy cotton robes in our room which we don as soon as we get back here.  There is an easy comfort here which is quite appealing and feels like home.
  • The grounds.  It is so FRESH … such OXYGEN!  All of the palm trees, water, greenery, wildlife … it is all right here as we walk to everything.  Many times I’ve forgotten that I can just walk a few yards towards the main road and be back in the “real” world.
  • The staff and guests.  Everyone that works here is very friendly and accommodating.  Our house-mate, Jamie, is a hoot.  He’s a piano teacher from New Jersey and is choosing to stay here all summer.  The other 3 rooms have gone from vacant to full but everyone is thoughtful and quiet.  This feels like “home”.  It is very interesting talking to the other guests.  Everyone has a story and is open to sharing.  Of course some guests here are very sick and maybe not so nice, but that’s understandable.
  • The choices.  I love being free to do everything or nothing.  HHI teaches self healing and self responsibility.
  • The discount.  HHI is open to the public.  One can buy a day pass for food and amenities (lucky West Palm Beachers).  As a guest, we receive a 10% discount on anything we purchase, including services, and they will continue to offer that to us for a year.  Now Shopper man (Dennis) may have a different opinion, but I don’t believe they gouge guests on anything.  In fact, we bought our new juicer from here today and they will ship it to us FedEx Ground for free.  And you KNOW Shopper Man did his homework on the Internet before he bought it.

The weather is supposed to clear up tomorrow and I trust we will be back to our infrequent and short showers and then mostly sunny weather.  A Tropical Storm is brewing out there, so you KNOW we’re doing our High Pressure Chants to keep it away until after we fly out of here on Saturday (we have a 3.5 hour layover in Atlanta).  We have been VERY BLESSED with the nice weather, low humidity, and no bugs (but lots of lizards!)

Here’s hoping you’ve had a fun, safe, and healthy Labor Day holiday.  What a crazy summer we’ve had since this all started with Dennis on June 6th.  We’re really hoping for an Indian Summer in September so we can enjoy a little more pool time with our friends.

Please do comment, text, or email us if you want.  We Miss You!

And We Send Our Love to All ~

Lizards are VERY GOOD “Joo-Joo”! They are protective energy, and stand sentry! (We have had one in our entryway since I moved in, in 1995!) (Ooohh…not living of course…a representation…) You are very blessed to have had their company; and very blessed for this experience! I have read 2 HHI books since you began your journey there. I have learned a great deal, and never in a million years thought I would end up buying another juicer!!! Looking forward to your epilogue…
    Hugs!!!

You already read 2 HHI books? Impressive! Yes, I already ordered a new juicer. More kitchen hardware (dehydrator, counter top distiller, mandolin slicer, sprout trays & racks, etc.) will also be ordered. We’ll reorganize our kitchen and AZ room. FUN for when we get home! Big hugs

  2. Well, your journey is winding down and sounds like just what the doctor/ homeopath/friends/the universe ordered. I lived just south of there for about 6 months and remember walking the Pompono Beaches well. It’s truly a lovely area albeit a bit rainy, as you have discovered! I found Florida a very difficult state to bike in.

I hope you had a chance to see the town of Palm Beach and the beach a little bit while in Florida. I see that you are headed home in 4 days and probably with mixed emotions of missing home ( and Muggins!) and yet, how lovely to escape from “reality” in such a spa environment. I’ll bet both of you look relaxed, thinner, detoxed, and in love celebrating an anniversary while there.

I hear what Dennis is saying about how difficult it is to travel with food restrictions. A diabetic suffers the same way. Cynthia Kendall always travels with extensive food preparations for that very reason. We’re fortunate to live in the Bay Area where Paleo, Raw, Organic is the norm. I sneak the occasional Diet Coke in an environment where it’s looked on like I’m shooting meth…. LOL. I noticed that SFO is increasingly adding vegan/raw/organic food kisosks along side their Burger Kings. Many many raw/paleo restaraunts here in SF- hopefully, Hartsfield in Atlanta is equally enlightened. It’s not so difficult. Chris travelled for years with his own food and I discovered a quick little secret. Once you tell the attendants you are diabetic, you can pretty much carry on any food/drink you wish!

Anyway, enough about food. Enjoy these last few days in paradise, and safe travels home!

I foresee a favorableTrip advisor review in the near future. Robb & I are so happy that this unknown has turned out to be your Mecca! So eager to delve into a vegan weekend with you. And even foregoing the usual libations! Yes, I do believe that is possible!

    1. YES IT’S POSSIBLE! It actually feels really good to have a clear mind and a much lighter body. Today is Fasting Day. Only wheatgrass, green juice, blue green algae, and green soup for dinner. The perfect day for me to have my fourth and final colonic.
