Florida Family

After a year of no air travel in 2022, I’m ready to try flying again. Joe and I did fly to Pismo Beach over this last Christmas to see my family, and that ended up being THE BEST decision considering the weather and travel nightmares in the rest of the country.

I got a wild hair and decided to take a quick trip to Florida to visit my stepson and his wife. Jae is the son of my first husband, Dennis Carnsew (Carns). I was only 22 when I met Carns and his 2 kids (Jae and Stacy), so they’ve been in my life for 47 years. HARD TO BELIEVE.

When we married, I became a step mom but I’m not sure I did such a great job. I was more of a weekend friend to the kids. In fact, Jae refers to me as his “big sis” instead of step mom. That works for me!

Jae and Leslie live NW of Orlando, so my United flight goes from Tucson – Houston – Orlando. I am VERY BLESSED to NOT fly through Dallas as THOUSANDS of flights have been canceled (again) due to weather. I’m sticking to my 4 night guest rule and will return on Tuesday (God willing).

I’m wondering how I REALLY FEEL about traveling these days. Some days, I just want to hunker down at home, feeling safe and secure. And other days, I have a real desire to get out there again. There are many crazy events in the world now, so I’m quite indecisive about what I REALLY want. Even something as simple as renting an AirBnB can involve having to be vetted by a third party (“SuperHog”) who needs to see our personal ID to protect the owner of the house from bad guys. Almost takes the fun out of traveling.

I do know that I enjoy road trips with Joe, as long as we share the driving and we focus on natural beauty. I’ve seen enough big cities already.

So I’m curious….how do you feel about travel these days?

I hear you about the flying for travel, however given all the craziness of travel during pandemic days, I still LOVE to explore and adventure no matter what and come what may.
We do love the freedom of driving and the flexibility it affords us.
The fun of seeing new and different environments, whether that be wilderness or cities still keeps me inspired!
Looking forward to some adventures after the twins are a bit older. We are looking at a couple road trips this summer and fall and maybe abroad next year!

Look at you! Planning a spur of the moment trip! WHOHOO! And I’m going to guess it was wonderful and you’re glad you did.

As for me, after the last 2 years I feel like a caged animal that can’t wait to get out and explore. We have family who have made multiple, carefully planned trips abroad and I am ready to follow suit. David, surprisingly, not so much.

Instead, it looks like for now we’ll be planning some trips closer to home. Starting with a Mexican Riviera cruise with my sister and her family for a week this Friday. I’m super stoked to explore with her, horseback ride, ziplining and celebrate both our hubby’s birthdays.

This year is all about more FUN!!!

As we get older it does become challenging. it is so much easier to stay in familiar surroundings. But that is not what life is all about. As you get older we have to challenge ourselves. Otherwise when we do get challenged we are not prepared. Travel makes us smarter
