The Amalfi Coast, Italy

Sunday, June 11, 2023

After all of the hustle, bustle, and tourists, this hotel is a very welcome retreat.  Hotel Delle Palme in Massa Lubrense
The bar
The dining room.  Breakfast is included
Sitting room with a view
There is no American audio on these TVs, and I don’t care.  We will be home and missing Italy and Greece soon enough
This is where Gina jumped into me! I just Googled her.  She was a photojournalist!
Front garden
The CATHOLIC Church at the end of our street (yes, Pete!)
Smoking gatos!!

Right across the street was an excursion office, and we were able to book an all day trip to the Amalfi Coast. And for only 60 Euros!

It took about 20 minutes to be transported to the port, and then it was over an hour to motor to Amalfi.

The town of Amalfi, where I chose to explore on my own
Cathedral of St Andrew
I stopped for a coffee and lemon sorbet
With this view of the Piazza de Duomo. Fantastic place to watch people

The forecast for the coast was not good, but I started my HIGH PRESSURE CHANTS. The rain did come, however. But like everything in life, it passed AFTER I found this dry place to rest.

I tried to have minestrone, but they were out. So assorted cheeses and red wine it was, right on the harbor.

We had 3 hours to explore in Amalfi and then motored west to Positano.

I took SO MANY PICTURES that I am overwhelmed with trying to decide what to post.

I’m so glad we approached Amalfi from the water.

Unfortunately, we did not have the same positive feeling about Positano. We disembarked, and we were overrun by lines of people.

The lines of tourists getting on and off boats
Ah, no. Not my cup of tea

Since it was SO crowded, we stopped at the first restaurant that could handle 5 of us. We made the most of it, of course

Limoncello!
A REALLY GOOD pizza that Holli chose
We had a down pour in Positano, too.
Since we had to wait in line so long for our boat, Kristen and I decided to have a wine

The entire coast is so spectacularly beautiful that I just can’t choose photos.  I will post my Best of the Best once I get home and can really see my pictures on my big monitor.

We were content to get “home” and enjoy a cocktail by our pool along with our “forbidden” cheese from my lunch.

On the way to dinner, we heard the church bells ringing and caught this procession passing in front of our hotel, heading to the church.

We learned this is a tradition the first Sunday of every June honoring the Body of Christ.  Flowers are placed everywhere.

It was a little challenging finding a place to eat.  The first restaurant said they were only allowing locals.  As a side note, we have found many restaurant servers are not very friendly.  But the restaurant that finally allowed us in was VERY NICE and great food .

Holli is very good at choosing her meals
This was an appetizer for TWO!  The 3 of us couldn’t even finish it.
Kristen had a Caprese salad

We ate at 10pm, followed by gelato.  Eating late is THE thing here. That is so hard on my body. I will be ROLLING myself off the plane Thursday night.  That is, if the smoke from Canada doesn’t mess up my return flight through Dulles.

Another beautiful journey! Sure are a lot of people but it’s June and summer. Pictures are beautiful again! Smoke isn’t as bad here due to the fires like last week. I can see the sun! Enjoy your day and keep those awesome pictures coming!

    Love,
    Dotty
