Sorrento, Italy

Monday, June 12 2023

It was a slow and easy start to our Monday. We all slept in a bit and met for breakfast to discuss our day.

H&K decided to stay “home” and locally explore and enjoy the pool. The 3 of us decided to check out Sorrento. Massa Labrense is about 25 minutes above Sorrento in the mountains. We tried to call a taxi, but out hotel host suggested we take the bus. Three tickets cost less than 9 Euros, so a very economical and immersive way to go.

We caught the bus close to our hotel and we got off at the train station. The challenge is navigating our way around, even with Google maps.

This is the land of narrow and curvy roads. How people can drive around here is beyond me, especially the buses. Our bus driver would honk when approaching a big curve, and cars would sometimes need to back up to let us through.

When we arrived in Sorrento, we wanted to find a nice place with a view to enjoy some lunch. We walked toward the water, but the curvy roads had us confused. We ended up by the fancy hotels in need of a bathroom. We ended up here, pretending we belonged.

This place had the nicest bathroom during the entire trip!
What a place to sunbathe!

Yeah, I could stay at THIS hotel.

We kept walking, hoping to find a good spot to eat, and we stumbled onto this place.

Foreigners Club …. THATS US!
Good food, too!
And a view!

We got back to the hotel around 2:30, hot and sweaty. I took a 45-minute nap and then met Kristen and Pete down by the pool for a chat. Since this evening was our last night before working our way back to the USA, Holli and Kristen found a charming place right down the road from our hotel.

We were excited to have a quiet Italian dinner
Under the sky on the outside patio

The musician was good but to appease a rowdy group of Americans (not us!), he started playing American music! When he played this, I HAD TO capture this for Carrie ….

Pete looks embarrassed! When in Rome ….

We were especially shocked when he played YMCA! Holli and I threw down our napkins and danced with the rest of them. So much for our quiet Italian dinner.

The food, however, was very good ….

We had attentive service through the meal. Our waiter even finished us off with a shot of limoncello!

As we have done all 3 evenings while here is stop at the gelato shop for dessert.

Beautiful pose, Holli!
I will miss this ….

Oh, and you certainly covered a lot of ground while you were there, but I guess no Pompei… 😥
