… because exploring is FUN! I find it challenging and intriguing, and a wonderful way to make new friends. I love photography, blogging and sharing my experiences with family and friends.
What a lovely and relaxing morning with a late check out at 1pm. This hotel had great WiFi, so I started my day lounging in bed and watching a Netflix movie that had been downloaded to my phone. I just made it to breakfast before they closed.
I brought some of Dennis’ ashes with me, so we each had our moment of scattering him at our Massa Labrense hotel.
Lynda chose an area that looks much like their family home in Hinsdale, ILHolli and the wine barrel … SO DENNIS!Kristen and her infirmary (she’s an Athletic Trainer)My choice was the base of this BIG Tree for Mr. BIG HandsThen we all loved having him around a lemon tree in front of the hotel
Pete wanted to scatter him in Pompeii, but instead, he will find a special place in Rome.
We ate lunch at the hotel before our driver arrived. Marcela gave us a shot of limoncello as we finished. SALUTE! She was born in Pompeii.
Our driver, Carmine, was quite a character. He talked THE ENTIRE DRIVE to Pompeii and then from there to our hotel in Naples. He kept Pete and me entertained, for sure. As we were driving through Sorrento, it was quite overcast. We have been SO BLESSED with the weather.
I’m very glad we did a GUIDED tour of Pompeii. It’s located between Sorrento and Naples.
The baths were outside the city walls. They figured out very clever ways to have both hot and cold water, along with sauna and steam. This was the swimming pool. There is a big incline to get into the city because the harbor used to be right outside the walls before the eruption. Mother Nature IS in charge, and our planet is ALWAYS changing. We had a great guideWhere the orators (lawyers/politicians) spoke to the people. It is so well preserved! This was quite moving to seeDrinking fountains, with different faces, were meeting spots for the 15,000 inhabitants. They have unearthed 206 acres, but there is even more to excavate. The city was MUCH BIGGER than I expectedThe McDonalds of PompeiiHolli’s pizza ovenThe bakeryA sign of GOOD LUCK at the entrance to a rich man’s house. Inner courtyard of same home. I see more good luck on the left. The artwork that has survived over 2000 years is incredibleThe shit streets. Gravity pulled all of the refuse away from the cityIs the mountain erupting??!!I didn’t realize the people died of asphyxiation and buried in ash. And they say the mountain WILL erupt again.
Our driver was right there with his black Mercedes van when we completed our tour. And he continued his monolog!
We were ALL surprised when we saw our hotel in Napoli, The Grand Hotel Serapide. Even Carmine was speechless for a quick moment!
WHAT A VIEW!!!I finally got my balcony!! ha ha
We ate dinner at the hotel and had a nightcap in my room
Pete was so happy to see an old American western and in english!
We crashed pretty early as we all commence our journey TOWARDS home tomorrow.

I am VERY GLAD. Ivonne and I would have been there on our COVID cancelled Italy trip in May 2020. Seeing that was important to me.
