Wowie …. MAUI!

I remember my parents had a small cabinet in my Dad’s basement office that had a sticker on it that said, “Here Today, Gone to Maui”. I remember this from my High School days, and I was always fascinated by the rhyme and the thought.

And now …. here I am going myself.

This trip came as an absolute surprise as just last week some longtime friends said, “SWING ON BY” and visit us at our timeshare in Kihei. And my reply … “WHY NOT?” So here I am right now, sitting on a United flight, bound for Maui. I know some of my friends thought I was heading out on a driving trip with Joe, but his plans changed so I was able to accept this very generous invitation.

Here’s a little history …. Dennis and I have known Harvey and Deb Anderson since 1989 through our business, Ophthalmic Imaging Systems. They were at our wedding in 1993. And we were on Maui at the same time in January, 1995. This is when Deb and I got our FIRST permanent toe ring. Good Lord … I was 40 years old!

In January of 2001, I had the hair-brain idea that Dennis and I should ride a bicycle down the Haleakala volcano at sunrise. I fell THREE times into the oncoming traffic lane and miraculously was not killed. Dennis was scheduled to play golf at one of the fancy/expensive golf courses the next day. But instead, my thoughtful and sweet husband rented one of these chairs on the beach and planted us there (I was very bruised and sore). I have always regretted that he missed his opportunity to play fancy golf on Maui.

In December 2005, Dennis and I did a Princess cruise to, around, and back to the states from the islands. Cheeseburgers in Paradise in Lahaina …. the most magical place.  I’m very sad that this beautiful restaurant has been destroyed by the fires.

Time changes EVERYTHING. Including making my first time to Maui on my own.

I’m so grateful that Harvey and Deb opened their hearts and arms to me and invited me to stay in their condo with them. It’s a one-bedroom, but has two bathrooms, and I will be sleeping on their pullout couch (or maybe even a blow-up bed). Let’s see how this almost fully 70-year old body can handle that. I’m grateful for my yoga practice!

It’s been raining in Kihei all week but is forecast to clear up tomorrow (HIGH PRESSURE!!) ANYTHING is better than the cold and windy weather we’ve had in Sahuarita. But more importantly, I’m looking forward to just being with my friends and sharing honest conversation, laughter, and probably a few tears on my end. I love these people very much, and whenever we’re together, we go deep.

I’m sure I’ll post pictures along the way. How could I not when I’ll be in such a beautiful environment??

Thanks for holding down the fort back home. I’ll be back in a week … MAYBE. :-)

And what perfect timing for this trip!

The New Moon in Capricorn is Thursday, January 11 at 4:57 AM Mountain Standard Time (MST)

This New Moon brings some very beautiful and supportive energy for intention setting. Tap into your deepest desires and use your creativity to explore what you know you want to do, to have and to experience. You do not need to know the “how” of it, only the “what” for now. This new moon is also in support of reaching for more courage to be seen as you step up into more of your authenticity and unique medicine.

This is a time of transformation; however, don’t be impatient with action, results or confirmation. A great deal of trust is needed, especially trust in your own inner wisdom and values. Spend some time writing down the intentions that are clear without any attachment to how they will manifest. Think of this list as a work in progress that can be refined, added to, rewritten or changed.

Watch bones, teeth, joints and knees – all vulnerable parts of the body during this time as we work with old patterns transforming them into new energies we can use. This new moon is also a good time to focus on being truly complete with what is complete. As you release the past, create new space with honor and gratitude for all lessons learned. As this is still an earthy and grounded time, spend some of it working with the earth and nourishing those parts of you that need some love and support from Pacha Mama.

Blessings,
Lena

THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!! Way to embrace Carpe Momento! 🙂 I’m thrilled for you! And hey, if the sleeping arrangements aren’t working, luckily you were financially SMART and can hop on over to a resort with no worry at all! But I hear ya, actually being with your close friends might make a little discomfort worth it 🙂

And OMG, I had no idea that Cheeseburgers in Paradise got destroyed by the fires?!?! I’m SO sad, that was one of my VERY few happy places on Maui (since I was only there for work, which as you know, was a literal nightmare). I can just hear the waves when you sat at the window, same as your pic! What a bummer… I hope they rebuild it as close as possible!

Anyhow, I hope you have the most AMAZING time! I can’t wait to read your next blog!

    Love you!

  2. Have a great time as I know will! I am so jealous as Maui is very dear to our hearts, This wonderful little town, Lahina, destroyed by fire was devastating to all the locals that rely on tourism! I know you three will spend some a lot of money and help those effected by the disater. Are you close to the area that burned?
We will be thinking about you this week, Enjoy and we love you!……… Carns

Wow I’m chasing your tail. Going there Feb 2 with my aunties. Won’t be riding down the volcano. Did that. Surprised you did! It’s a tricky ride. Good for you girl. I’ve camped at the bottom and will only hike it this year.

    Love the posts
