We were up early again, just ONE MORE TIME, to go on our last excursion of the trip: a 4 wheel drive adventure to Skippers Canyon.
We really did not know what to expect, so the whole thing was a surprise. We dressed very warmly, thinking we’d be in open-air jeeps, but we weren’t.
The road was built during the gold rush and was constructed between 1883 and 1890. Skippers Road was considered a major engineering feat in its day.
We went off-road shortly after leaving town and WOW. What amazing beauty we experienced!
We returned to our hotel by 12:30 pm, so that gave us the entire afternoon for free time. And since New Zealand makes AMAZING wine, a group of us decided to do some wine tasting (big surprise, right?). We couldn’t do a wine tour, but we found The Winery, where one can taste multiple wines from around the country. Since it didn’t open until 2:15, we popped into The Local for lunch.
We got back to the hotel just in time for our goodbye dinner. And the party continued with all 39 of us
And as if THAT wasn’t enough, we had to go BACK OUT after dinner!
It was the perfect ending of a perfect trip.
