Played hooky today

I decided last night that I needed a day of rest, and I took it on Wednesday, October 1st. In past travels, I typically need one day of regrouping after the first week.  This journey I have gone 11 days without a break.  And what a lovely break I had today.

After eight plus hours of sleep, I didn’t go to breakfast until 9 am. And I have discovered that I absolutely love Skyr.  It is an Icelandic yogurt with tons of protein and healthier than Greek yogurt.  I will certainly be adding that to my diet when I get home.

I hooked up with two other women from our group who also wanted a day on their own.  Mary and her daughter Lu, from the Atlanta area, felt the same way I did, so we planned our own day.

We began by going to Fly Over Iceland.  I don’t think I could sufficiently describe it, so if you’re interested, click on this link and watch their trailer ~

We watched both Fly Over Iceland AND Fly Over The Canadian Rockies. This experience is much better than IMAX because I did truly feel like I was flying.  The seats rumble and tilt, and you feel the mist of waterfalls and the smell of volcanoes.  This must be like The Sphere in Vegas.   Unfortunately, we got separated before the show started so I had the experience alone.  But I was repaid when I saw the Canadian show; there were only two other women from Hungary watching the show with me!  I felt like a real VIP.

We walked back to the Rainbow Road afterwards and strolled around until we got hungry.

I thought this rainbow was going to be longer, but it only goes for a block or two

My choice for lunch
Do I look like I’m suffering?  That Icelandic Lobster Dog was delectable!

And when in Rome, or Iceland that is, one must go to The Ice Bar!

It seems a lot easier when I’m this tired to just post the link instead of trying to describe it.

It was 23⁰ in the ice bar and we lasted for 2 drinks and 30 minutes!

It was only my fingers that really felt the cold.

We worked our way back through town to our hotel, enjoying the sites~

Love this
This used to be a prison and Inga worked there back in the day as a guard!
Lots of funky artwork

It felt good to get back to our hotel and get my shoes off.  I hung in my room for a while and finished the blog from yesterday, and then went down for happy hour and to start working on today’s blog.  I got distracted when Brian and Pam appeared.  We talked about our day and then had dinner together.  I had more lobster for dinner, but this time on a pizza!

Tomorrow is our last day in Reykjavik.  And if the volcano
behaves, then we will go to the Blue Lagoon after breakfast.

The tiny sign is in my very tiny room.
