Thursday in Marseille, France

We woke up to GORGEOUS weather again which is a major blessing as I heard it was just raining a few days previous (so I was told).  Marseille is the largest port in France and a massive area. It was founded in 600BC by Greek sailors.

Our tours this morning started at 8:15, and I chose differently than my mates.  It was important to me to visit where Vincent Van Gogh painted and the birth place of Nostradamous!

The 90 minute drive to Saint-Rémy-de-Provence was beautiful:  lots of olive trees, grape vines, greenery, and mountains.  Our guide, Ben, had a strong French accent which I had some trouble deciphering.  But with the help of the Internet, I was able to glean what I wanted to know.

There was a mideaval church here, but it was damaged over time.
It was rebuilt and is 163 years old
This is where Nostradamous was born in 1503.
He died in an adjacent town at 63 years old.  He was a physician and writer.  Could he REALLY see into the future??

Several shady squares to enjoy
The claim to fame here is rosé so I savored a glass

Van Gogh stayed at the asylum in this town, but we didn’t visit there (too bad).  But that is where he painted The Starry Night.

We stopped outside of town to see this gateway to the ancient town of Glanum.  It dates back to the time before Jesus!

By the time we all returned to the ship, we were a little tired.  I ate an Impossible burger and then took a snooze by the pool.

Dinner was in The Grand Dining Room, followed by a comedian show.  We ALL went to bed early on this night and I have to admit it felt great.

Another early tour tomorrow.
