Our day of culture and nature

Yesterday (Friday) was a lovely strolling day, above the bustle of the city.

We decided to check out The High Line, a 1.5 mile long elevated  public park built on a historic freight rail line from the 30’s.  It was the most perfect choice for the perfect fall weather.

Artwork all along the path, mixed in with condos.  This is Diana Al-Hadid’s  “Double Standard”

These were a little disconcerting.  Artwork by Patricia Ayres who described her work as “the boundary between body and garment”

We completed the High Line and headed to Chelsea Market for lunch at The Cull and Pistol.  I spotted the place because it wasn’t packed with people, and it ended up being a Michelin-acclaimed seafood restaurant!  We had DELICIOUS lobster rolls.

The Whitney Museum of American Art was our next stop.  We totally enjoyed this contemporary museum; even saw an Andy Warhol piece.  The building also  had artwork outside on balconies which was quite unique.

Roy Lichtenstein
Beth Ann still uses these!
And of course, this is me

Across the street was a new addition to the waterfront:  The Little Island.  So interesting as it consists of 132 tulip shaped pods that holds 2.5 acres of gardens and winding pathways on the Hudson.

Looking back to the entrance of the island.
We could see the Statue of Liberty …. if you squint!

It was another BIG day of walking and my feet were begging for a break.  Maps found us a local bar for a bathroom and tall cocktail.

The Gadfly Bar

Jumping on the subway again, we headed back to a Christmas shop where Beth Ann had purchased some personalized ornaments.

Another spot Beth Ann wanted to visit …. Serendipity III.  This restaurant looked like a kids ice cream shop, but we quickly realized it had adult treats as well …

Beth Ann thought she ordered a sensible cocktail but HOLY COW!  Mine was a S’mores martini with a  graham cracker rim

After all that sugar we decided we could easily walk back to our hotel and returned around 7:30.  The bed felt SO GOOD so we simply vegged out and watched 2 movies filmed in NYC:  Home Alone 2 and Sleepless in Seattle.   We both got another good night of sleep.

I’m trying to wrap this up on Saturday while transporting to Phase 2 of our trip:  7 days on the Majestic Princess.   I feel like I’m dreaming…

Any thoughts?
