Last day …. Tuscany!

Monday, May 11th …. our final day of the cruise.  And for me, being in Tuscany has been on my Bucket List.

From our balcony

This was our last excursion:  a visit to the Bolgheri Village and wine tasting.  The Village was about 45 minutes from the ship and through endless vineyards and groves of olive trees.   To get to the village, we drove through 5  kilometers of cypress trees, numbering 2500, lining each side of the road!

From my seat in the back of the bus

None of the shops were open quite yet, so we simply strolled through this iconic 11th century village.

We did have a fun encounter with one of the shops keeps.  They weren’t open yet, but of course we needed a toilet.  Since they only sold bottles of  wine, I offered them euros for payment and they refused.  They were so kind and gracious about it.  Unusual from others we encountered.

A short ride brought us to Guado Al Melo Winery.

The entrance to the underground winery.
They are famous in this area for their “Super Tuscan” reds
The snack that accompanied the 3 wines that we tasted
We could walk on TOP of the winery
Very lush AND wild boars in this area!
We love wine so we enjoyed this excursion

Back to the ship and time for some lunch.  I enjoyed their Impossible Burger from Waves, the grill at the pool.  Unfortunately, the food on this ship has not been as exceptional as we expected.  And yes, I have also been eating meat and cheese.  Its hard not to and my body shows it.

Ivonne enjoyed this cocktail

After a rest, it was time to eat again.  Tonight was The Tuscan Steak House

We ate right at sunset.  This looked like such a romantic table
Oysters Rockefeller!
Finally …. a full lobster!

We REALLY enjoyed our “last supper” …. it was a three hour dinner!  In fact, we stayed so long that we missed our luggage in the hallway deadline!

Uh oh …. we were the last cabin to put out our luggage.  L&P were down the hall and I think they were later than us.

All is well that ends well.  They didn’t throw us in the brig and they let us disembark the next morning at 8:45.

I’m writing this on Wed, May 13th, our 2nd day in Rome.  With our schedule, I’m not sure I can write again until we’re flying home on Friday.  Just know that we are safely in THE HEART of Rome and fighting the crowds to see some sites.

I met BOTH of my husbands on this day, 12 years apart (1976 and 1988) so obviously I’m thinking about them both.  Being an incurable romantic, my heart is full of love today.

Any thoughts?
